As of 2015, the house captaincy system has been updated.
In 2015 we shall see the house captain voting system for captains and vice captains go as per usual. One vote per student, who will vote for one male grade seven and one female grade seven to lead their house. When the votes have been calculated, the male and female with the highest number of votes will become house captains, and the male and female with the second highest amount of votes will become vice captains. This is how the system for house and vice captains has always worked.
However, 2015 will also see the introduction of the new house captain system in the form of house helpers. For the past few years, upon the request of several house leaders in the years before, we have tried to implement the house helper system in an efficient manner. However, the system never seemed to benefit the pupils or staff members.
In 2015 we will introduce a new system in which the house helpers (one male, one female) will be grade six pupils elected by their house into their position. They will take on the post of house helper for the year in which they were elected, then take over their house as house captain the following year, with pupils voting that year only for the vice captains and new grade six house helpers.
Therefore, grade six pupils elected in 2015 as house helpers will take on the position of house captain in 2016. That pupil's house will, in 2016, vote for the grade sevens they wish to assist the house captains as vice captains, and will vote for a new grade six duo to help their captains and vice captains as house helpers. The grade sixes chosen in 2016 will become captains in 2017, and so the pattern continues.
Although we are unsure of whether this will become a continued Tonystone Primary tradition, we thought it would be best to inform you ad your children in advance as to what we plan to do in terms of the house helper system for next year and, hopefully, the years to follow.
Thanks,
